Carriages – “Iron and Fire”

This was a very interesting listen for me. The instrumentation immediately hooked me as I am a sucker for samples cut and edited in subtly (and not so subtly) psychedelic ways, but what kept my attention – and indeed what led me to write about this track – was the particular brand of folk that was added to it. Carriages, Harry Bookless and Aaron Page,  experiments by blending sampled-generated soundscapes with a very traditional vocal style derivative of classic Irish folk music. The result is an ethereal piece that allows the mind to float gently along a path cleared by the duo. I thoroughly enjoy their sound experiments and am eager to see how their style develops as the duo matures.
