The Wend, a short animation by Daniel Farah, tells the tale of a of a man who is liberated through dance and motion. I’d like to stress that last word – motion. Farah does such as spectacular job making his characters move that it is nothing short of brilliant. The short is set to Clark’s “Secret” featuring Martina Topley-Bird, a piece that begins almost comically – its light, tropical jazz juxtaposed with Farah’s dark imagery – and builds gradually towards an epic explosion of passion and feeling. In the piece’s final moments Farah’s animated figures are so sexually charged that the viewer can’t help but feel a certain degree of desire. I mean who doesn’t wish a beautiful dancer would appear to liberate them from themselves?
