After a year and a half of patience and a successful pledge fundraising campaign, Opiuo fans were rewarded this week with the artist’s newest album release, “Meraki”. It’s been a long time coming for the Kiwi’s fans, but remixes with artists such as Pretty Lights, KOAN Sound, and Kimbra have tied us over until now. This new album released under Opiuo’s new label, Slurp Music, is dub dirty, synth-grizzy, and funky in all the right ways.
The album as a whole combines funk elements, glitch hop, and break beat, which fuse together to create one banging, cohesive flow of music. In Opiuo’s words, the album is “…truly my best I can do at this moment”, and that blatantly shows. Artist collaborations with Beats Antique, Russ Liquid, and Gift of Gab give each track a unique feel and style, while remaining true to Opiuo’s usual audio vibes.
Opiuo is currently on tour promoting his newest album and tracks in Australia, however he does have some US shows coming up, including Bicycle Day in San Francisco (which the Electric Bare team will be at).
