This past weekend was Bicycle Day at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco. The venue was saturated with bass heavy psychedelia, waves upon waves of sonic stimulation that built an other-worldly playground for wide-eyed explorers. It was a perfect marrying of organic and electronic. It stood as an example of man’s mastery of technology to bring about a cleaner and more refined appeal to very human senses. Thus, in my obsession with this type of music in the days following the event, I am pleased to present Rioux.
Erin Rioux (Ree-yoo) is a producer, vocalist, and curator based in Brooklyn, New York. His music is beautiful and very cerebral. Sounds and melodies build upon one another, creating complex versions of themselves before fading away, replaced by others that seem to fit/work better. It is evolution in music. Rioux has worked with many other forward thinking electronic musicians such as Arca and Stephon Alexander, and is scheduled to release a collaborative LP with the latter, Here Comes Now, in the summer of 2014.
